Your new role
The Senior Technical Manager defines, implements and executes the technical strategy with regards to maintenance and repair, technical solutions and innovation. A strong focus will be on the development, maintenance and innovation of our Containers and all other Equipment and linking these solutions with business needs and customer requirements.
The STM has a strong technical background, leads the teams and provides technical inspiration. The successful candidate will have the capability to create an overview on all technical developments as well as being curious to understand the details of a specific technical challenge. The STM acts as a role model for their team, ensuring strong inter department relationships which are aligned to the wider business needs. Reporting to the Head of Operations, the STM works closely with our Network Manager, Fleet, commercial and operational teams.
Create and execute the technical strategy, keeping a strong pulse on innovation, to ensure that the business responds quickly and effectively to customer and supplier changes and opportunities.
Leadership of the technical department, that consists of a team of Technical Engineers, Field Supervisor, Quality Surveyor and Technical Manager.
Supplier management and quality control of our external technical partners.
Contribute to business development through working with internal stakeholders on technical innovation and design new transport, storage and loading & unloading options
Influence senior management and gain commitment for proposed ideas.
Be a champion for change and continuous improvement, facilitate an open culture within the Technical Departments by constantly challenging and motivating the teams to achieve higher goals
Develop and organise the team to have clear accountabilities and visibility aligned to the day to day priorities and requirements of the business.
Determining and delivering on KPIs to deliver the business strategy, including the technical P&L.
The goal of the role is to lead the team in our ever-changing business environment, accelerate overall performance of our technical department, and ensure that technical development and innovation.
What you’ll need to succeed
Experienced in a technical/engineering environment of which at least 5 years in a leadership position.
Experience in the logistics of dry bulk would clearly be an advantage.
Understand the importance of safety in our working environment.
Recognise the complexity of container/bulk intermodal transport.
Lead the technical department, contributing to technical solutions through curiosity of the wider considerations for the business and understanding the key details.
Understand the business, absorb and organise complex information and match a technical strategy and implementation plan.
Understand the how and where the department delivers to the business objectives with considerations safety, quality and productivity.
Take responsibility for the processes and ownership of actions.
Determine direction and monitor progress, intervening when necessary.
Experience of change management / changing culture / Influencing
Skilled in mentoring and coaching
Strong people management skills
