A pioneering R&D company are currently seeking a Senior Scientist – Carbon Specialist to lead projects, manage project teams, prioritise project activity as well as design and execute experiments to support the development of advanced carbon or polymer-based feedstock materials for battery applications.  The role involves line management and project management capability as well as laboratory-based activities that are focussed on synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical evaluation of advanced battery materials and precursors. 
Senior Scientist – Carbon Specialist Duties:

Lead a small multidisciplinary team to develop and deliver advanced carbon or polymer-based feedstock materials for battery applications.
Design and carry out experiments to ensure products meet customer requirements and make sound technical recommendations that enable and accelerate product development.
Participate in technology reviews, road mapping activities and peer review of project activities.
Identify novel technology opportunities and broader uses of technologies to enhance technical progress and competitiveness.
Present and provide written reports regarding key technical analyses of material performance to key stakeholders within the business and externally.
Assist with the Intellectual Property department with drafting and evaluation of internal patent claims / filings.
Be an active voice for continuous improvement and supporting all safety driven improvement activities.   
The Successful Senior Scientist – Carbon Specialist Will Have:

Expertise in the synthesis and characterization of carbon-based porous materials and surrounding academic literature.
Experience in tailoring pore volume, pore size and distribution, and morphology of porous carbon particulates.
Expertise in polymer synthesis and processing for nanotechnology or energy storage applications.
A Masters or PHD level university qualification in chemistry, applied science or similar.
Significant post-University experience gained taking a product successfully from initial concept through to commercialisation including substantial experience of experiment design and execution.
Prior experience of experiment analysis utilising statistical methodologies.

Salary: £60000 – £100000/annum Plus excellent benefits
