A Senior Buyer is required for my Gloucestershire based client, a global leader in the design and manufacture of electro-mechanical products for a range of industries.

Working in a well established team, the Senior Buyer will be responsible for the management of assigned spend categories and relevant suppliers, holding ultimate responsibility for the cost, quality, and delivery of goods and/or services under that category and the suppliers’ fit to the company’s requirements.

Responsbilities of the Senior Buyer:

Cost control ensuring prices negotiated are consistent and competitive.
Negotiating Terms & Conditions of Purchase with key suppliers.
Development and implement effective sourcing strategies to achieve excellent support on delivery and order fulfilment and competitive pricing.
Instigating, supporting, advising and developing procurement tools and applications that strengthen the procurement process for the department as a whole.
Taking a holistic category management approach to spend categories, being responsible for the suppliers used, supplier rationalisation, price, delivery performance, quality and responsiveness and manage business risk to supply and cost.
Developing supplier base and partnerships to create a reliable and sustainable sources of supply.
Leading negotiation activities to drive and realise continuous improvement.
Alignment of supplier agreements with business performance and cost objectives.
Providing purchasing support for New Product Introduction [NPI], Product Engineering and other company initiatives managing cost and risk and maintaining continuity of quality and timely supply at all times.

Experience & Skills of the Senior Buyer: 

Have demonstrable experience of working in a similar Purchasing role.Preferably be a member of a recognised global procurement institute such as Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) or Institute of Supply Management (ISM) and either hold or be working towards professional qualification.

Have experience of assessing, developing and managing suppliers.
Have a good knowledge of contract law and its practical application.
Ideally global purchasing experience including HMRC import requirements.
Be experienced at negotiating and will possess good analytical skills to make informed decisions.
Have good communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.
Be a proficient user of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Have a working knowledge of ERP systems. 


Salary: £38000 – £42000/annum
