An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Practitioner Psychologist to join a dynamic psychology department providing input to our Personality Disorder Service.
The Hospital is a 10-bedded specialist service dedicated to supporting females with personality disorder to acquire the skills to effectively manage their own emotions, be interpersonally effective and tolerate distress. Our aim is to help patients to live a happier, more independent life. The post holder will work closely with a skilled and well established Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) therapist who works into the service full time, and they will be embedded within a wider multi-disciplinary team of professionals. The role is extremely diverse and will involve assessment, formualtion, trauma-focussed intervention, risk assessment, indirect working, consultation and training to the wider staffing team, and supporting psychological approaches to care. There will also be opportunity to provide clinical supervsion to other members of the psychological therapies team.
Suitable candidates will have interest in, knowledge of and experience of working psychologically with complex client groups and risk. Some post qualification experience is desirable although newly qualified psychologists will be considred. Applicants should have knolwedge of and interest in Personality Disorders, trauma focussed interventions and trauma informed approaches to care, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Formal and accrediated training in Dialectical Behaviour therapy is desirable although not essential (and this training is something that could be provided to the post holder following a successful period of probabtion). The post holder will need to be able to form positive relationships with colleagues and be interested in working in teams. Suitable candidates will also have the drive to develop innovative approaches to intervening psychologically with this client group and be interested in contributing to service development in conjunction with the lead clinician.
There are excellent CPD and training opportunities for employees within this service, and funded and accredited training opportunities will be available and agreed as part of the role (subject to the completion of a probationary period). Attendance at national conferences and research interests are also encouraged. The psychology department also has strong research links with local Universities, and provides placements for trainees from a number of different courses on both core and specialist placements.
