A leading manufacturer of functional coatings is currently recruiting for Development Chemist to join their state-of-the-art facility based in West Sussex. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic chemist/scientist with some industrial experience relevant to polymer synthesis to develop a successful career and work alongside leading teams at the forefront of cutting-edge technology.
Joining an established team of chemists and scientists, you will take responsibility across a range of functions involving research & development, synthesis of specialist coatings, testing raw materials, and being a point of contact for customer/client technical enquires.
Development Chemist Responsibilities
Formulation optimisation.
Development of new paint formulations for specialist coatings
Improvement of existing formulations with tailoring to customers’ needs.
Development and application of dispersion technologies
Analysis of dispersions and coatings
Implementation of quality control methods for dispersions and coatings
Environmental testing of coatings
Use of FTIR, UV-Vis, SEM and EDS
Documentation of experimental work
Preparation of research reports
Providing technical advice to both internal areas of the business (sales/marketing) and external customers/clients.Development Chemist Requirements
It is essential to be MChem/MSci qualified in Chemistry or Material Science from a recognised leading university.
Proven experience gained in an R&D laboratory developing paints or specialist coating products.
Dynamic and outgoing personality with a strong desire to succeed in a commercial research organisation.
Must possess a self-motivated character with the ability to organise/prioritise your own work.
Ability to communicate across all levels using various media platforms.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.A full UK driving license is required.
